VOS RENDEZ-VOUS SAVE THE DATE GANESH CHATURTHI 3 September 2019 Celebrated by the Marathi Hindu community, Ganesh Chaturthi hails the birth of the most important of the Hindu gods: Lord Ganesh, son of Shiva and goddess Parvati. This god with the head of an elephant embodies wisdom, intelligence and education. After a period of fasting culminating in a night of prayer, the ultimate ritual takes place: Ganpati Visarjan . The devotees carry huge effigies of the god in a procession down to the shores of the sea or a lake, or a riverbank. The statues are then submerged, accompanied by the sound of singing and incantations. This symbolises Ganesh’s return home, carrying with him the misery of all men, and it perpetuates the cycle INTERNATIONAL JOCKEYS’ WEEKEND 30 November and 1 December 2019 This final event in the Mauritian horseracing year is one not to be missed. Each year, at the Champ de Mars race-course in Port Louis, this two-day mini-championship takes place the first weekend of December and brings the best international jockeys from all over the world – Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. The French champion Maxime Guyon, racing this year in the Beachcomber Group colours, is a regular favourite at this great event, winning – among others – the Cravache d’or (“Gold Whip”) in 2018 leading three racehorses to victory. Riders find out which horses they will mount in a draw just before the International weekend. Sport, entertainment and atmosphere guaranteed! of creation and dissolution within nature. GANESH CHATURTHI 3 septembre 2019 Célébrée par la communauté hindoue d'origine marathi, Ganesh Chaturthi fête la naissance du plus important des dieux du panthéon hindou : Lord Ganesh, fils de Shiva et la déesse Parvati. La divinité à tête d'éléphant incarne la sagesse, l'intelli- gence et l'éducation. Après une période de jeûne et au lendemain d'une nuit de prières, survient l’ultime rituel : Ganpati Visarjan . Les fidèles portent en procession de grandes effigies du dieu jusqu'au bord de lamer, d’un lac ou d'une rivière. Les statues EVENTS 84 sont alors immergées, accompagnées de chants et d'incantations. Cet acte symbolise le retour de Ganesh dans sa demeure, emportant avec lui les malheurs de tous les hommes, et perpétue le cycle de la création et de la dissolution dans la nature. INTERNATIONAL JOCKEYS’ WEEKEND 30 novembre et 1 er décembre 2019 C'est le rendez-vous incontournable qui clôture la saison hippiquemauricienne. Chaque année, à l'hippodrome du Champ de Mars de Port-Louis, ce mini- championnat se déroule sur deux jours pendant le premier week-end de dé- cembre et réunit les meilleurs jockeys internationaux venus de tous les continents – Europe, Asie, Amérique du Sud, Afrique, Australie… Le cham- pion français Maxime Guyon, qui court cette année sous les couleurs du groupe Beachcomber, s’est régu- lièrement illustré lors de ce grand rendez-vous, remportant notamment la Cravache d’or lors de l'édition 2018 en menant à la victoire trois coursiers. Les montes sont attribuées à chacun des cavaliers lors d'un tirage au sort la veille du week-end International.
