Leena Mulloo FLOWER POWER LE POUVOIR DES FLEURS For the past fifteen years, Leena Mulloo, floral decorator at the Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury, has been creating ephemeral bouquets, echoing the poetry of the scenery. BY FANNY RIVA - PHOTOGRAPH VINCENT LEROUX Her name is Surina but everyone here calls her Leena. She was thirteen when she first entered the little shop full of flowers, in Grand Baie, where she was born and grew up. “I wanted to buy a bouquet for my mother’s birthday,” she remembers. “I immediately fell under the spell.” Since then, Leena has come a long way: from her internship in the florist studio in Grand Baie at the age of 18 right up to the Royal Palm Beachcomber, the flagship of the Group, where she has officiated as head florist for some fifteen years. THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS “I love harmonising the shapes, the hues, the scents. Each bouquet has its own intention,” Leena explains. Here, in reception, on a console under a mirror, a sculptural bouquet stands guard, creating an atmosphere of luxury and sophistication. There, decorating the tables, the flowers, pastel and cut short, are softer, simpler and smiling. In the suites, they are more tender and silky. “I also enjoy making bouquets for weddings, matching them to each individual occasion. The most beautiful bouquet is often the simplest, the most natural," concludes Leena who loves nothing better than roses. ANOTHER WORLD Her little studio facing the garden, where metal buckets full of white anthuriums, birds of paradise and heliconias fight for space, Leena is in her element. “I love to be here, out of the way.” Alone and in silence, she daydreams without interruptions – except on Wednesday mornings when she teaches the younger hotel guests about floral art. “Children are receptive. They become gentler as they handle the flowers. It’s a great pleasure to watch them. Flowers are in a world of their own,” says Leena, the woman who makes dreams come true. 
