GEET GAWAI THE SONG OF ORIGINS LE CHANT DE L’ORIGINE Added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016, Geet Gawai is a rite stemming from the Bhojpuri community, which was introduced to the island in 1834 with the arrival of the first coolies from north-east India. It blends together rituals, prayers, songs, dances and music. The community’s elders are its custodians.
